Garrison Afterschool Program is a ministry of The Episcopal Church of our Saviour in Virginia-Highland. The program has no religious content, but we do encourage children to be respectful of each other and tolerant of differences. We strive to achieve a diverse enrollment to provide the best opportunity for all of our students to learn cooperation and teamwork. Our first and foremost priority is the safety of the children. Our second priority is to make certain that the children enjoy their time here.
Elementary school children practice conversation skills and table manners at snack, then go to the playground for some fun. Next there’s homework. We have enough qualified staff to help children who have questions about their assignments, or to give a spelling test or review a reading log. We also ask children to read independently during homework time.
GAP provides an excellent balance of structured and unstructured activities. Children practice conversational skills and table manners while we eat a nutritious, delicious snack. WE head to the playground after snack for running, jumping, and playing. Our qualified, passionate staff then assist children with homework and reading. Our sensory room is available to children who need extra time to decompress before they need to put their concentration into effect at homework time.
