About Garrison Afterschool Program
Garrison Afterschool Program is a ministry of The Episcopal Church of our Saviour in Virginia-Highland. The program has no religious content, but we do encourage children to be respectful of each other and tolerant of differences. We strive to achieve a diverse enrollment to provide the best opportunity for all of our students to learn cooperation and teamwork.
GAP provides an excellent balance of structured and unstructured activities. Preschoolers enjoy lunch, rest and play with an emphasis on acquiring practical skills. Elementary school children practice conversation skills and table manners at snack, then go to the playground for some fun. Next there’s homework. We have enough qualified staff to help children who have questions about their assignments, or to give a spelling test or review a reading log. We also ask children to read independently during homework time.
